What is the adjustment called where the table drops as the chiropractor pushes on my low back?
This adjustment where the table drops below you as the chiropractor pushes on your back is called a prone, drop table adjustment. Using the drop table is another way to get motion into the low back or pelvis in the areas that are restricted. The drop table is a great tool chiropractors use to achieve more speed in the adjustment while applying a low amplitude adjustment. It is an effective and safe way to still get the spine aligned, and uses inertia by having the back drop with gravity approximately one inch before it gets caught by the table.
Some people prefer this adjustment over the pretzel, side posture adjustment for the low back, because it doesn't require any twisting of the body. Chiropractors will often use this adjustment when patients have a more flared up condition and can only tolerate a little bit of motion. This technique can also be used in combination with other techniques such as side posture (twisting pretzel move) adjustments, activator (instrument assisted) adjustments, or long axis distraction (leg pull) adjustments.
