How does health insurance work for Chiropractic

How Does Health Insurance Work for Chiropractic?

Chiropractic health insurance is a type of insurance coverage that pays for a portion of your chiropractic expenses. It protects you from paying full costs of medical services. Your health insurer agrees to pay a certain amount of medical costs as you agree to pay a certain rate or premium each month. Each plan or policy is different for the portion of expenses paid.

What Does Health Insurance Cover?

A standard health policy covers (but not guaranteed to cover):

  • Emergency services

  • Chiropractic services and procedures

  • Visits to primary care doctors and specialists

  • Medical check-ups

  • Prescription drugs

  • Medically necessary procedures

How Does a Deductible Work?

A health insurance deductible requires the insured or anyone who is covered under the plan to pay a certain amount towards their health coverage before the insurance will start paying under the health plan. The insured must pay and satisfy a certain amount of money in order for insurance to pay a certain percentage. After this deductible is met, your plan may pay your chiropractor bills at partial or full reimbursement.

What is a Copay?

Some insured do not have a deductible to satisfy. A copay is a small portion you pay for every doctors visit, lab test, or medical procedure. The insurer (patient) will be responsible for paying the balance. Chiropractic co-pays can range from $5 - $45 depending on which plan you choose.

Other Types of Insurance

Chiropractic care from an auto accident is typically covered at 100% with no out of pocket expense to the insured (patient).

Workers compensation also has coverage for accidents that happen while on the job and is a required insurance for all of Montana employees. Workers comp also pays 100% for chiropractic treatments.

Accident, sickness, and unemployment insurance policies are disability insurance policies. It provides financial support for the policyholder in the event of a disabling illness or injury disallowing them to work.
