Common Elbow Injuries
- Golfer's Elbow/ Medial Elbow Epicondylitis -
- A condition with medial/inside portion of the elbow pain. Caused by micro tears of the tendons on the inside portion of the elbow.
- Oftentimes you will feel pain at the inside portion of the elbow, pain with turning the wrist (turning a door knob/car steering wheel).
- Tennis Elbow/ Lateral Epicondylitis -
- This condition is similar to golfer's elbow, however pain will be on the outside portion of the elbow. Caused by the tendons and muscles having micro tears due to overuse.
- Experience pain on the lateral portion of the elbow, weakened or decreased grip, and or pain with rotation of the wrist (turning a door knob/car steering wheel).
Common Wrist/Hand Injuries
- Carpal Tunnel -
- A common condition that the median nerve gets trapped or compressed causing a variety of symptoms.
- These symptoms often are numbness, pain, burning sensation, difficulty with fine movements such as holding a pen, typing, cooking etc. and possibly feeling sharp pain shooting up the arm.
- Arthritis of The Hand -
- A condition that is most often seen in those over 40. Arthritis is an umbrella term that includes many different conditions. The most common arthritic conditions:
- Osteoarthritis
- Gout
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Psoriatic Arthritis.
- Often those with Arthritic conditions experience swelling, pain, and stiffness in the joints of the wrist and fingers. Oftentimes these symptoms can be at the base of the thumb and knuckles.
- A condition that is most often seen in those over 40. Arthritis is an umbrella term that includes many different conditions. The most common arthritic conditions:
Treatment for Elbow, Wrist and Hand Pain
Treatment is going to vary depending on the condition the patient has. For instance if the patient has tennis elbow or golfers elbow, dry needling may be a viable treatment. Other conditions such as osteoarthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome, chiropractic extremity adjusting may be the best option.
