Subluxations

A subluxation is a term commonly used by chiropractors describe an altered position of a vertebra that subsequently causes loss of function. The word "subluxation" is derived from the Latin word meaning "slight" or sub and "to dislocate" or luxate. These slight dislocations of the vertebra can cause pain and motion restriction as well as other physiological issues like burning sensations or headaches. Pressure is applied to the nerves when the bones move out of place resulting these other symptoms. Chiropractors are the only professionals who are trained to treat these types of conditions and do so using non-invasive techniques.

There are five components that occur when a subluxation is present. First is the bone component or osseous component, this includes any sort of degeneration of the bone. The nerve component includes any malfunctioning caused by pressure on the nerve. The muscle component of a subluxation is affect by the nerves themselves and is responsible for holding the vertebra in place. Soft tissue is the next component looked at by chiropractors, the subluxation causes changes in the tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues. The fifth component is the chemical changes that occurs with a subluxation which can cause biochemical abnormalities. By adjusting the vertebra to its proper position these components will return to normal as well.

As Chiropractors, we are able to recognize these components and treat the subluxation so that all components are attended to. He is able to manipulate these subluxations to restore full range of motion and eliminate pain using manual techniques. Therapies can also be done as well as exercises to help full function to be restored. Call Gallatin Valley Chiropractic to set up a free consultation today.
