What are Chiropractors doing when they Adjust the Neck?

Chiropractors have extensive training in what is called HVLA adjustments, which stands for high velocity low amplitude. This means the adjustments are quick with a small movement. During the initial visit to the clinic, your chiropractor will do a number of orthopedic, neurologic and movement exams to ensure you are safe to be adjusted. This will also help the chiropractor determine where needs to be adjusted. Chiropractors will also palpate (feel) each individual vertebrae of the neck and determine if there is a movement restriction. If there is a movement restriction, the chiropractor will adjust into that restriction to restore normal biomechanical movement.

When Should I Get my Neck Adjusted?

Headaches, neck pain and stiffness, mobility restrictions, temporal mandibular joint dysfunction, whiplash, shoulder pain and disc injuries... These are all conditions that can benefit from cervical adjustments. A question we often get is will my neck pain go away with one adjustment? The answer depends on a few factors such as how long the problem has going on, what is the patient doing to help their condition, and severity of the condition.

Do Neck Adjustments Feel Good?

Patients will often feel significantly better following just one cervical adjustment. Cervical adjustments are a great way to restore mobility in cervical vertebrae that are immobile. This in turn can reduce muscle tension and inflammation. If getting your neck adjusted is scary to you there are other alternatives that we can find that work best for you!
